Sure Yeah is the electronic music project of Surya Krishnan, a Toronto-based DJ, producer, live performer and event organizer. A self-taught musician on piano, bass guitar and violin, he began producing in 2014, first through hiphop and later through ambient electronic works presented at the Toronto Lights Festival.

Surya’s sound as a DJ explores the diversity of techno music and pushes its boundaries by incorporating a lot of music that isn’t techno at all. His sets have a foundation in deep hypnotic techno and industrial techno, layering in dub, bass, experimental, ambient and drone to pull listeners into more reflective, abstract territory. It’s a constellation unique to him, resulting in sets which can be bright and bubbly or dark and cavernous.

His productions and live sets are focused on pushing electronics to their physical and creative limits. To get there, he builds each track up from only 3-5 elements, aiming to have an inside-out knowledge of each tool and sound source he uses. Surya draws inspiration from techno’s Midwest roots, the aggression of Birmingham’s industrial sound, and the modern, West Coast sound design-influenced techno coming out of scenes in Italy, Spain and Japan.

Surya is a regular presence in the Toronto’s DIY party circuit and recently played Ontario’s Best Out of Town music festival. He’s also one of the organizers behind Second Nature, a Toronto-based events series & collective devoted to the outer reaches of dance music.
